Traditional silk weaving is an important part in cultural life of Lao people. It is a significant miss if you want to explore the unique culture of the country without taking part in to a silk weaving class. You will not only get to know more about this traditional handicraft but also get a true experience about unique weaving techniques with the help of experienced weavers.
Today there is a great experience with Lao textile waiting for you to discover at the Houay Hong Vocational Training Center for Women. The Centre was founded by a Lao- Japanese woman in 1998 with two main objectives: Provide training for various skill levels, in weaving, dyeing and tailoring for women from rural areas who are disadvantaged, poor and to revive and support Lao’s traditional crafts.
They also offer half or full-day workshops, where visitors learn the craft of Laotian weaving including designing patterns, tying thread, dyeing (using natural color), and trial loom weaving. In this class you can learn how to dye textiles using natural pigments and then weave them on a traditional loom. After finishing the class, take your fruits home. It will be an impressive experience in your journey to this beautiful country.
